The MacBook Neo is Apple's most affordable laptop, announced on March 4, 2026 and on sale since March 11. It's the first Mac with an A-series chip: the A18 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro, with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. The model linked here has 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage, in Blush, with an English keyboard.
On paper: a 13-inch Liquid Retina display (2408 × 1506, 500 nits), 1.23 kg, a fanless design, and up to 16 hours of video playback or 11 hours of wireless web according to Apple. It has two USB-C ports (one USB 3 that drives an external display up to 4K at 60Hz, one USB 2), a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6. It runs macOS Tahoe with Apple Intelligence, and a 20W USB-C power adapter is included.
MacBook Neo vs Air: same weight at the 13-inch size, but the Air M5 adds 16GB of memory, MagSafe 3, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two external displays, a backlit keyboard with Touch ID, a 12MP camera and Wi-Fi 7. The Neo skips those extras for a much lower price.

MacBook Neo vs Air: which one should I buy?
The Neo if you mostly browse, write documents, attend classes and stream, and price matters. The Air M5 if you want 16GB of memory, a backlit keyboard, Touch ID as standard, two external displays or more ports.
Is the MacBook Neo worth it for students?
For note-taking, writing and research it covers the essentials: light, silent, and rated for up to 11 hours of wireless web by Apple. For video editing or heavy coding, the fixed 8GB of memory becomes the real limit.
Does the MacBook Neo have a backlit keyboard?
No. No MacBook Neo configuration has a backlit keyboard. Touch ID is available only on the 512GB version.
