What to know about this Monopoly board game

The link leads to Hasbro Gaming's classic Monopoly in its new version released for the game's 90th anniversary: a storage tray for money, cards and components, plus tokens, houses and hotels that are larger than in previous editions for easier handling. It plays 2 to 6, ages 8 and up.

In the box (Hasbro version G0009): gameboard, 8 metal tokens (Scottie Dog, Hazel the Cat, Racecar, Top Hat, Thimble, Rubber Ducky, Penguin and Sack of Money), 28 Title Deed cards, 16 Chance cards, 16 Community Chest cards, 32 houses, 12 hotels, 2 dice, the storage tray and a money pack.

The official rules in short: each player starts with 1,500 and collects 200 for passing GO. Land on an unowned property and you either buy it or it goes to auction. Owning a full colour set doubles the rent and lets you build evenly, up to 4 houses and then a hotel. The last player who isn't bankrupt wins. Hasbro also points out that some house rules make the game longer: no cash on Free Parking, and always auction.

FAQ

How much money do you start with in Monopoly?

Under Hasbro's official rules, each player starts with 1,500 in Monopoly money, no matter how many are playing. You then collect 200 every time you pass or land on GO.

What are the Monopoly rules for jail?

To get out, you have three options at the start of your turn: pay 50, use a Get Out of Jail Free card, or roll doubles. If you fail to roll doubles in three turns, pay 50 and move. While in jail you can still collect rent, buy and trade.

Monopoly rules: what happens on Free Parking?

Nothing at all under the official rules. Putting tax money in the middle of the board is a house rule, and Hasbro says it makes the game longer.
